Elaine’s Blog - Life on the Costa Blanca

Hello welcome to the beautiful Costa Blanca.  Here we are summer has already started.  We were a little up and down weather wise end of May but, we are now already into June and ‘Sunny Boy’ will has a big smile on his face and his hat firmly on.

After the peace of winter in Moraira people are starting to slowly come back to their beautiful properties. Those of us who live here all year are starting to see all the restaurants, bars and little shops buzzing into life.  The clothes shops with all their beautiful beach attire and elegant dress wear for the evening. The long evenings sitting in beachside bars and restaurants. Welcome to summer.  Where are you!!!!  The roads are busier, well, as busy as it gets in a once fishing village. The longest traffic jam we ever have is when its’s market day on Fridays at least 20 cars waiting to drive through the village.   Love market day. The first thing you see and smell as you enter is the Churros van the smell of the hot churros combined with sugar is the smell of heaven. Dipped in hot thick chocolate make this the one indulgence you must taste whilst you are in Spain not the healthiest thing to eat but the Spanish love churros and they are very healthy. As you wander through the market  -   there is a market in every town or village one day of the week - sample the fresh fruit on offer the stall holders will peel oranges, cut up apples, every variety of fruit will be there to be sampled.  Olives mmmmm wow the combination and variety on offer again, all can be sampled. The chocolate man selling the chewy melt in the mouth almond covered nougat all broken up just waiting to be popped into your mouth. The parma ham and cheese man, the egg man.  It’s not just food plenty of beachwear, jewellery, shoes leather goods its all here. Indulge and enjoy.

The thing about Moraira is its so, well Moraira.  The little castle in the centre of the village…….its still know as the village by residents who have a house or villa here for over the past 30 years or so as, when they arrived Moraira was just that a fishing village so, although it now resembles a town, a very small town it is still know as the village surrounded by the amazing properties overlooking the town from the surrounding homes carved into the rocks and mountains….. the castle still dominates the centre and the main streets running towards the castle are used for all fiestas.  The big one being the Moors and Christians Festival starting on Friday 8th June at 19.30pm until Sunday 17th June 2019 ending with the Gala Parade starting at 20.00. Not to be missed the costumes, the bands the whole atmosphere is amazing you wont be disappointed. If you are lucky enough to own a property or apartment in the town centre you will have a ringside seat watching the whole parade pass before you. Be here to see it. If you do miss the parade in Moraira you will be able to see in it in any town on the Costa Blanca on various dates.

Bustling during the summer with tourists, calm but lively during the winter months as Calpe has a strong population of ex – Pats. 11km of beautiful sandy beaches both sides of the famous ‘CALPE ROCK’ the Rock of Ifach. Interesting always plenty to see and do. Old Roman baths, 15th & 17th-century churches still stand. In the Moorish quarter, some of the medieval walls are still preserved intact. You will never be bored if buying a holiday home or living permanently in Calpe!!

Javea - Xabia

Interesting Javea. Surrounded by lush green countryside and dramatic mountain scenery of the Montgo National Park. From beautiful sandy beaches on the playa to the buzzing fish market at the port, further along the coastline. Go ever so slightly into town, the Old Town, a different world which is really old Spain. Delightful little cobbled back streets that lead into beautiful centuries old squares. If you want the best of both in Spain buy a home in Javea.

Beautiful Moraira is a small town on the Cost Blanca 80km northeast of Alicante in the Marina Alta Region. The population is around 11,000 people, a large proportion being ex-pats living here on a permanent basis, are in 2 areas Teulada on the outskirts and Moraira on the coast. Moraira originally a small fishing village is, during the summer a thriving holiday destination for European visitors. With its beautifully clean beaches, restaurants little shops and cobbled back streets. The Castle stands proudly, overlooking the beach in the centre of town. It’s a delightful place to buy a holiday home or live here permanently.

Charming Altea the old and new mixed together. The old part of Altea is on the top of a hill giving fabulous views. A popular and pretty town although it can be quite steep and hilly in some areas.Walk along the promenade past the many frontline restaurants and bars into town just by crossing a road. Wander around to find little cobbled streets. Altea is fairly quiet during the winter months although busy in the summer due to tourism. It is becoming more and more popular with Northern Europeans buying homes here.
