Area info

It is surrounded by dramatic mountainous countryside inland and around 160 kilometers of coastline lapped by the Mediterranean Sea. Nowhere is more breathtaking than Costa Blanca.

With its once little fishing villages like Moraira, Costa Blanca North still retain that sleepy charm of years gone by. From the moment you leave the airport heading northwards on the motorway, you can drive at a pace that affords you the luxury of taking in the wonder of the mountains surrounding you—passing Benidorm with its magnificent skyscrapers that don’t even appear to be out of place. Onwards towards the pretty town of Altea. Driving through Altea, the coastline is to your right but take a left and drive slowly through the old city and see little tiny cobbled streets filled with even smaller restaurants and bars. Drive or walk up to the very top to find the majestic church of Our Lady Of Consolation - Altea…..amazing.

You are continuing to Calpe, a very residential town with lots of high-rise apartments and villas dotted into the mountainside with the most amazing views. Alive with bars, restaurants, and fabulous sandy beaches with the famous ‘Rock of Ifach’ rising from the sea. Pass the massive salt lake that dominates the center of Calpe with hundreds of Pink Flamingos wading through the lakes fishing for food. Take the fantastic winding coast road onto Moraira, which is more peaceful than Calpe no high-rise buildings in Moraira, and there is a more tranquil and relaxed atmosphere. Still very busy during the holiday season but much quieter during the so-called winter season. Benitachell (Benitatxell), which Cumbre de Sol is part of, is the mountainous area on the outskirts of Moraira. If you are looking for the most beautiful scenery ever, then venture to Cumbre you will not be disappointed. The views are simply wow.

Still heading Northwards the next town is Javea (Xabia). As you drive toward Javea, the glorious Mongo mountain overlooking Javea on one side and Denia on the other. Javea is a town of many faces. The Playa de Arenal is a bustling area surrounded by many apartments, shops, bars, and restaurants. It has the most fabulous sandy beach. A little further along the coast, the port area is again alive with busy restaurants and bars but a little more laid back—lovely restaurants to eat or have a drink in overlooking the sea. The old town is away from the coast and about a 10-minute drive. Completely different. You wouldn't think you were still in Javea. Beautiful old townhouses with substantial old wooden doors and window shutters crammed in side by side in tiny little cobbled streets. Sit and take a coffee or a cool drink opposite the beautiful 500-year-old Sant Bartomeu church that stands in the center of the square. The unbelievable architecture and beautiful carvings are mesmerizing. The feeling of 'this is gorgeous Spain' hits you.

Drive over the Mongo to see the spectacular scenery of Denia stretched out before you. Denia is quite a modern and very much a working town. The massive port houses the ferry that sails between Denia and Ibiza. The marina in Denia has hundreds of boats and fabulous yachts moored there. The fantastic 'Castillo de Denia' is the tremendous castle that overlooks the marina on the far end of the town. There are still a few remains of the Palace inside the castle from the 17th century. Denia is also known as the 'City of Gastronomy.' The wonderfully exquisite fish caught fresh each morning, rice and seafood dishes, and fresh fruit and vegetables to accompany your meal make for a culinary delight. This is the very healthy Mediterranean diet that is talked about worldwide—not forgetting the fabulous wines that are on offer too.

If the coast is not what you are looking for and you would prefer a more tranquil way of life, go a little inland. The beautiful Jalon Valley or the neighboring area of Alcalali could be of more interest. The drama of the mountains and the lush green countryside is fantastic with breathtaking scenery.
